The Pedagogical Center of Attention to Children and Families (CEPAIF), is a civil association founded in 1993 working on the integral development of young people between 12 and 22 years old, with the aim of achieving a social transformation through family integration, teaching-learning processes, the promotion of discipline, community bonding, responsibility, values, social service, nutrition of families according to their economic and cultural situation, the reinforcement of hygiene habits, the psychopedagogical orientation and the realization of courses and workshops on different topics such as violence, sexuality, conflict resolution, human rights and women's rights, care of the environment, among others.

Work And Activities

The volunteers will work 5 to 6 hours per day from Monday to Friday on very specific occasions, weekends. The work depends on the needs of the association at the time of narrival, but will primarily consist of: supported courses, workshops, campaigns, etc. as well as the attention and development of socio-emotional skills, proposing educational and recreational activities. They can also contribute, in accordance with their abilities and interests, in different specific roles, such as helping in social media communication and public relations, working on fundraising

Accommodation And Food

Volunteers will stay in a volunteer house designated by Nataté in the city of San Cristóbal de las Casas, with shared rooms, it is important to bring a sleeping bag. They will have access to basic services, shared bathrooms with hot water, and an equipped kitchen. NO WIFI.
The participation fee does NOT include the costs of food or transportation.


The project takes place in the charming city of San Critstóbal de las Casas, which has managed to maintain its colonial architecture and Mexican flavor while welcoming a mix of indigenous, national and international cultures. Similarly, it is a strategic starting point to tourist attractions like parks, lakes, Maya archeological sites, mangroves, waterfalls and beaches.


The volunteer has a command of Spanish an intermediate level (spoken and written), have a high social and human commitment, as well as an open mind to collaborate and live with adolescents, youth and adults in a vulnerable position (indigenous, with a medium-high level of poverty), must have a respectful attitude towards the norms and behaviors of the indigenous community, a high tolerance for frustration, be able to work under pressure.


Intermediate level of Spanish is necessary. Volunteers are invited to register for an intensive Spanish course, or an indigenous Mayan language (before of their project) at the language school ‘La Casa en el Arbol Instituto Cultural’. For more information:
