Concordia is happy to be working again with the community of Midhurst. The festival brings together creative, artistic & musical talent in the small town of Midhurst in the heart of the South Downs National Park. The festival is 10 days of events, from all genres of the arts involving
community groups, charities, societies, individuals, businesses & venues celebrating & developing all that is great in the community, culminating in a carnival procession & musical theatre spectacular.

Work And Activities

The volunteers will be involved in doing an art and design projects for the main carnival parade and main events – the theme this year is “Under the Sea”, so the parade is sure to be colourful and lively! Volunteers will work on a Giant Puppet for the parade and costumes on that theme. Volunteers will also be involved in ticket collecting and marshalling the events as well as providing support and assisting whenever needed. Volunteers will need to help with the set up and clear up of the various venues throughout the main festival week. The first couple of days on the project are likely to include some time working in the South Downs National Park, for example clearing vegetation and invasive species.

Accommodation And Food

Volunteers will be sleeping in a community hall very near to the work site. Volunteers will cook together in their own kitchen. Wireless internet access is available from the café below the accommodation. The accommodation is located in the centre of Midhurst and is within short walking
distance of banks, pharmacies, supermarkets, restaurants, cafes, libraries and shops. Volunteers will have access to a local leisure centre where they will be able to shower. Please note you will be outside for a lot of the time so bring clothes that will be suitable for wet weather as well as dry. IT RAINS IN ENGLAND IN THE SUMMER – Be prepared! Only a few miles from the sea, so don’t forget to bring your swim suit. Since it is always nice to try new and different dishes, volunteers are encouraged to bring along their favourite recipes from home!

Midhurst is an old English small town steeped in history within the South Downs National Park in the county of West Sussex. It has some interesting independent shops and pubs and even a castle! You are very close to the countryside and within easy distance to the coast and London.

- Volunteers need to have a keen interest in community events and English culture as well as a good level of spoken English and good people skills.
- Any volunteers with music, artistic and creative skills will be well suited to this project, as there will be plenty of work painting and making the parade items.
- A Certificate of Good Conduct must be sent to Concordia at least three weeks before the project takes place.

Volunteers need to be able to manage stairs as the accommodation is upstairs as well as able to sleep on camp beds and walk up to 5km.
£40 (GBP) - a small contribution to Concordia’s administration fees. If the volunteer needs a VISA to enter the UK, an additional £21 needs to be paid to Concordia to cover the cost of the VISA sponsorship certificate.
